SB 904 – Controlled substances: treatment (fentanyl)

Introduced by Senator Bates (Coauthors: Senators Borgeas and Jones) (Coauthors: Assembly Members Chen and Davies)

Due to the dramatic increase in the number of deaths attributed to fentanyl, many of whom were unaware that such a small amount was lethal, more education and treatment is needed. This bill clarifies and strengthens current law, such as requiring a minor who has been found to have been in possession of any controlled substance to complete successfully a drug education or treatment program rather than receive education or treatment.

POSTED: May 21, 2022

STATUS: Senate - passed to second reading

POSITION: Support

Thoughts for consideration:

  • Little has been done to address the opioid epidemic and fentanyl deaths while lives are destroyed..

  • This bill is recommended by the San Diego and Riverside Counties District Attorneys.
